CNO’s IT team is hiring a Senior Data Engineer to be responsible for overall technical execution and project delivery in our Azure data environment. Our data management team has recently started our cloud migration journey, where we will be creating new data assets and repurposing legacy, on-premise data technology with modern solutions. The Senior Data Engineer will be the primary technical resource designing, building, and maintaining data pipelines as we build new data warehouse and analytic solutions in our Azure cloud. This position is a key collaborator that will work with all data team members, and will become intimately familiar with our CNO data and business processes as we deliver analytic solutions to our customers.

As a Senior Data Engineer, your responsibilities will include:

Working with data and solution architects to implement future state architecture, via large enterprise-wide “change the company” programs

  • Designing and developing solutions in the Azure technology stack (Databricks, Delta Lake, Data Factory, Synapse, Snowflake), in collaboration with project teams

  • Providing data analysis to inform and refine use cases and project requirements for data warehouse and analytics solutions

  • Promoting and using metadata driven techniques and automation to eliminate manual development and maintenance tasks

  • Collaborating with cloud infrastructure architects and technicians to design and enable architectural patterns to help us meet both financial and security related goals in this cloud platform

  • Cataloging, monitoring, and optimizing data pipelines as they enter into the production state, becoming the subject matter expert in this space.

  • Mentoring and guiding data team members and our contractor partners as we migrate from traditional on-premise ETL solutions to data pipelines built in cloud native technology.

The Senior Data Engineer position is well-suited for you if you:

  • Have well-developed foundational knowledge and expertise in data management disciplines and practices

  • Are well versed in various integration techniques: ETL/ELT, data replication, streaming integration, API access/integration and data virtualization

  • Have been working in the Azure data technology space for at least 2 years

  • Have experience working with data scientists on analytics projects

  • Demonstrate strong group facilitation and collaboration skills.

  • Are a strong problem solver and data analyst, that can combine complex data from multiple sources for analysis.

Qualified candidates will have:

  • Bachelor’s degree, in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or a related discipline

  • 8 years’ work experience in data management disciplines, including data integration, modeling, optimization, and data quality

  • At least 2 years of Azure and cloud related work experience on data solutions. Databricks and Data Factory are most critical

  • At least three years of experience working in cross-functional teams and collaborating with business stakeholders in support of data management and analytics initiatives.

  • Proficient in MS Office Suite and other business-related software

  • Ability to work with a virtual and remote international team
