Salary Range : $102,600 - $154,000 Annual

CNO FinancialGroup’s Legal Department is hiring a Sr Insurance Product (life, health and annuity) Counsel tohold responsibility for providing a full range of legal and/or compliance counsel and advice for various insurance units around insurance products, product development, policies, and/or services. The role will work closely with leaders across the legal departments as well as corresponding business areas to ensure appropriate legal, compliance, and/or risk actions.

This is your opportunity to collaborate with and advise associates in CNO’s business segments and areas relating to legal/compliance risks pertaining to product language and administration.

As a Sr Insurance Product (life, health, annuity) Counsel, your responsibilities will include:

  • Gather and analyze facts and applying appropriate laws, regulations, and legal standards to provide support to company directors, managers, supervisors and associates.

  • Under moderate to limited direction, provides legal and/or compliance counsel for current insurance products and/or the ideation, development, and implementation of new insurance products, to include review and drafting of such products and supporting documentation.

  • Interpret complex federal and state laws related to product design, new business, product management, e-commerce etc. Assists in the creation of reports/communications that will be used in board committees, senior management and/or with regulators.

  • Review, revise, drafts and approves general contracts, policies, and or training materials that support CNO business segment products. Work with internal customers to ensure that contemplated legal terms will meet business needs over the long term.

  • Provide guidance and interpretation of complex federal and state law related to product design, new business, product development, e-commerce, etc., as requested by business areas or operating units or as otherwise needed. Collaborates with business areas regarding legal matters.

  • Make recommendations to best support business unit and/or areas.

  • Provide legal counsel and assistance with matters as Senior Leaders across the Legal function.

  • Collaborate with other legal associates, corporate and business units to identify and address regulatory risk in operational functions. Serves as the Law Department’s representative on enterprise projects within his/her specialized area(s) of legal practice.

  • Stay abreast of regulatory changes and laws that impact the organization and/or insurance industry and effectively communicates developments related to their specialized area of legal practice.

The Sr Insurance Product (life, health, annuity) Counsel position is well-suited for you if you:

  • Have a strong understanding and knowledge of legal principles and life/health insurance products/industry; strong familiarity with insurance regulations is preferred.

  • Are proficient in interpreting policy contract language, statutes and regulations.

  • Possess outstanding policy/contract drafting, negotiation and organizational skills.

  • Have the initiative to work independently in a project setting with members of other departments.

  • Are comfortable working in “gray areas” of the law.

  • Identify potential risks and communicating those risks and possible solutions to more senior counsel and business partners that are practical and business oriented.

  • Identify and advocate practical, business-oriented solutions.

  • Work quickly and efficiently without sacrificing quality.

  • Are a fantastic communicator both written and verbal.

What you’ll need:

  • Juris Doctorate degree required; licensed to practice law in at least one jurisdiction.

  • At least two years of related experience.

  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office and other business-related software.

What will set you apart:

  • Five years of related work experience highly preferred.

  • Insurance (Life, Health, Annuity) or financial services related experience preferred.

Associateswho live within a 60-mile radius of a corporate office (Birmingham, Carmel, Chicago, Orlando and Milwaukee) have access to come into that Office up to 2 days/week, and are encouraged to come into the office at least twice per month. You may be asked to travel to corporate office periodically.

Associates who live outside of a 60-mile radius of a corporate office (Birmingham, Carmel, Chicago, Orlando and Milwaukee) may perform this role full-time work from home (WFH) from any US based location, as long as you are willing to work central or eastern time zone hours. Work cannot be performed from outside of the United States.

Compensation

Pay Range: $99,700.00 - $149,500.00 Annual
